The Foundation of Rotary Clubs (S) Ltd

There are 23 Rotary clubs in Singapore with about 1,000 members. This foundation is jointly supported by all 23 clubs. The Rotary movement is a worldwide organisation founded in 1905 by Paul Harris. Its motto is "Service above self".

The Foundation partners the Singapore Government in identifying needs to enhance the welfare of society and in providing appropriate community services to reduce gaps in services.

The Rotary Family Service Centre (established in 1997), Rotary - Ayer Rajah Students' Care Centre (established in 1999) and Rotary Counseling Centre (established in 2001) are results of this partnership.

The Rotary Club of Singapore supports the Rotary Family Service Centre.

The Rotary Club of Singapore is pleased to support the following worthy beneficiaries :

Major Project - 2007/08
The beneficiaries of the Major Project 2007/2008 are the Retired Senior Volunteers' Programme (RSVP Singapore) and the Epileptic Are Group (ECG Group).

RSVP Singapore was inaugurated in 1998 by the then Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong.  RSVP members are seniors from all walks of life yet having something in common: a sense of altruism and the desire to help others.

Epilepsy Care Group (Singapore) (ECG) is a registered charity and an institution of public character representing an estimated 16,000 individuals and families who are living with epilepsy.  ECG works to enable people with epilepsy in Singapore to maximise their choices in life and ensure their voices are heard.

We donated $24,000 to ECG to acquire a dragon boat for their activities and $100,000 to RSVP Singapore to enable them to further their good work.

Major Project - 2006/07

The beneficiaries of this year's Major Project are the Patient Care  Centre ("PCC") at the Communicable Disease Centre of Tan Tock Seng Hospital and the Singapoer After-Care Association ("SACA").

The Club's project at PCC was two-fold: first, to provide a new passenger van to the Centre.  The old van was in constant need of repair and had outlived its usefulness. By partnering with Rotary Club of Singapore's Entrepreneur of the Year Awardee, Mr. Karsono Kwee, and his company Trans Eurokars, we jointly purchased and outfitted a Toyota Hiace van, which will considerably improve the type of service the Centre can provide in shuttling patients, obtaining needed supplies and other essential activities. Funding was also provided for the upgrading of a storeroom into a day-care centre.

The Club's second beneficiary received financial support from contributions to the Major Project fund drive benefitted SACA's Education Support Programme ("ESP").  This programme was initiated to provide support for discharged inmates who need to advance their educational and career goals but are unable to do so due to a lack of guidance, lack of knowledge on upgrading, lack of family support and/or financial constraints.  ESP is the partner programme to the Lee Foundation Education Assistance Scheme ("LFEAS") that provides funding for bursaries for ex-offenders to take courses that improve their skills.

Major Project - 2005/06

ROTARY YOUTH OUTREACH PROGRAMME

The Major Project for 2005/06 was to set up a Rotary Youth Development Centre along the lines of the Ministry of Community Development, Youth & Sports (MCYS) "Out-of-School Youth "OSY" Development Scheme.

To be renamed The Rotary Youth Outreach Programme, the scheme is targeted at students from primary and secondary school who have dropped out of school prematurely (about 1,200 students annually).  The OSY philosophy is that early intervention is the key to preventing students from crossing the line into a life of aimlessness, unemployment or delinquency and crime.
