The Interact Coordinating Committee’s “GREY CAN STILL PLAY”
16 March 2019

Reported by: Rtn Dr Hoh Sek Tien, Youth Service Director, Rotary Club of Singapore

“Grey Can Still Play 2019”, organised by the Interact Coordinating Committee (ICC) was a one-day community service project which brought together seniors and Interactors for a day of fun and meaningful interaction.

The event which comprised a lunch and carnival for the seniors, was supported by the Rotary Club of Singapore, Youth Corps Singapore and MacPherson CC, with funding support from the Foundation of Rotary Clubs of Singapore's Rotary Happiness Fund.

This project was a grounds-up initiative by the Interactors and a large-scale cross-school collaboration across our many Interact Clubs in Singapore. The aim is to promote inter-club collegiality through working together towards a common goal of service.

This year’s event, held on 16 March 2019 at the MDIS Samtas Hall at Stirling Road was the second edition of a similar event organised last year. While last year’s event comprised a house cleaning segment followed by a carnival segment, this year’s event focused on the carnival in order to generate more interaction opportunities between seniors and Interactors.

More than 200 interactors from 12 Interact Clubs across the island and 70 seniors from the MacPherson and adjacent areas were involved. Interactors were tasked with roles such as: a befriender who is paired to a senior for the duration of the carnival, a carnival booth manager, or a performer. What followed for the rest of the afternoon, was good fun, good food and most important of all, good company!
